Garage Floor Coating – What Are Your Options?

Adding a coating to your garage flooring can really transform this space into something more than just a place to store your vehicles. It can become an extension of your home, looking just as nice as the other areas. Besides making your garage more stylish, it also makes it much easier to clean. Of course, you have different options in garage floor coatings, so it may make your decision easier if you understand what they are.

Floor Paint

One of the most affordable options is floor paint. It is fairly easy to use and any touch ups can be done quickly without a lot of hassle. You can also choose from different types of paint to get a look you like.

Epoxy

An epoxy coating offers a nice, shiny look to your garage flooring. It requires a very quick application, though, once it is mixed. After the epoxy is applied, it then needs to be sealed. It also takes a while to completely dry. However, the durability is excellent.

Stain

A stain creates a marble-like look to the flooring. It is easily applied, but you do have to work it in with a brush, which can take time. It also doesn’t protect against moisture.

Sealer

This is the cheapest option for a floor coating. The finish can be gloss or satin, and application is rather easy. It does protect against moisture, but can be damaged by chemicals and doesn’t last as long as an epoxy.

Adding a finish to your garage flooring is something that can help you protect it from damage and get more life out of it. Pouring a new concrete floor is a huge undertaking, but adding a coating can help you to avoid having to replace a worn out floor by adding many extra years of life to it. Most flooring options are rather quick and easy to use with some taking a bit longer to apply but paying off in durability.
