How To Organize Your Home Garage

1The garage can be an extremely beneficial space for storage and provide a great work area, but more often than not, it’s a cluttered catastrophe. However, with a few storage tricks and solutions you can give your home garage a much needed transformation.

Declutter

First things first, you have to get rid of the clutter if you’re going to make any significant improvements. Divvy up your garage items into a “necessary” pile, “storage” pile and “trash” pile. This is often the biggest hurdle in making any changes, but simply ask yourself if you used the item in the last year and determine if it’s broken. You can always donate or recycle items you no longer have use for.

Add Shelving

If you don’t already have shelving in your garage, it’s time to add it. Getting items off the floor and onto unused wall space is a great way to de-clutter. More storage space is the key to getting that garage organized.

Make Use Of Cabinets

Garage cabinets offer a safe place to store power tools and crafting equipment. Using garage cabinets keeps those dangerous tools behind closed doors.

Slat-wall Racks & Accessories

A slat-wall is a great way to easily add organization tools and accessories. Almost any type of carrier or holder can be attached to the wall. A slat-wall can give you a place for bikes, tools, sports equipment and even gardening supplies.

Add Overhead Storage

Adding overhead garage storage will give you back even more of your floor, and that means more room for what your garage was meant to house—your car. Not only does overhead storage and shelving free up floor space, but also wall space for more cabinets and gridwall racks!

Drop-Off Bins

Store items that you access frequently in drop-off bins. Bins that pull out of a shelf or cabinet are great for outdoor toys, sports equipment or dirty clothing you don’t want in the house.
